It's getting colder and colder out there, and I'm not referring to the weather. Particularly since the BC Liberals came into power, the quality of life for many in this province has been steadily declining. Between Campbell and Cristy, you can bet that this province is going to be run into the ground within the next decade if changes are not made - and the sooner the better!
This month has been particularly hard on us financially. I am currently unemployed, because I am unable to find a job. As a result, I must rely on government assistance, and since I live in British Columbia, that's not much to rely on. I have a 16 year old son, who is autistic, and has varied medical conditions, including heart issues. We get less than $1000/month to cover all expenses, including rent, food, transportation, utilities...and any 'special' expenses that we might run into from time to time.
I had to pay an excessively high utility bill this month. Although on equal payment, there was a rather steep amount at the end that was not included in my plan, and I had to pay that on top of my regular monthly bill.
I called the ministry and asked for a $20 food voucher to get me through to next week. Do you think they would help? NO! I had some arrogant, snotty kid on the other line, telling me that this extra hydro bill was not considered an unexpected expense, seemed to think that a 50g container of yogurt and a slice of bread was enough food for two people for 4 days. and therefore, didn't feel that our present situation constituted the need for more food. There are a lot of people who are in similar circumstances, and the numbers keep climbing. People are either unable to find employment or losing the jobs that they have.
That said, I want to appeal to all British Columbians; when election time rolls around, think long and hard before you vote for the Liberal Party. Even if you are presently in a comfortable situation, you may not be in a year, or even 10 years from now. The current government won't help you when you're down. When Cristy Clark uses phrases like "families first", make no mistake - what she is really referring to is her family; not mine, not yours - hers. Like Campbell, she is in it for herself, and not for the benefit of all who reside within the province that she is supposed to be working for. She promised to get rid of the HST, which as we know, has made everything cost even more than it already does. but it hasn't disappeared just yet. That is only one example of what she 'hasn't' done.
I am voting NDP; I think it's time for a change, and although no government is perfect by any means, how can it be any worse than what we have now? Just a little 'food for thought'.
